A New Direction

Hello friends! Well I have embarked on a new and exciting path! I am hoping to have a store in 3 years, when my youngest starts kindergarten and so I am adding jewelry an accessories to my list. Here are some of the pretty things I've gotten so far. You can take a look at everything I have on my facebook page Doodle and Bug Designs.

I am having the funnest time with all of this and soon I will be getting in clothes. I am still making things like the scarves, but adding what all women want more of!

Knitting Scarves and Hats With A Loom

Happy New Year!!!!

Around November of last year (which seems like yesterday), I was at Hobby Lobby (of course) and saw looms on an end aisle and was instantly intrigued! Now I'm addicted. It's super ease and so far I have made scarves and hats. I will be trying to film it and put it on You Tube so you can see how easy it is. Of course, if you can't wait..go to youtube and type in loom knitting and start creating. I have found out that for the soft-as-silk feeling scarves that drape beautifully, to use Yarn Bee's Soft Secret Yarn. It comes in the prettiest colors and is all around wonderful to use. Hobby Lobby seems to have the best selection. Here are some pics of the scarves:

Arent' they just beautiful?! I have been busy making scarves for weeks now and the orders keep coming in, which makes me very happy. And, I know what the women in my family are getting for Christmas this year!
I used the round looms for the hats. Next I'm going to try leg warmers! Here are some pics of the hats:

So it's your turn to get out there and knit! It also keeps me calm :)

Halloween Barrette's

I love looking on etsy and revisiting memories! I loved the ribbon barrette's as a child and had a purple set that I wore with everything..even if it didn't match! Here's my Halloween version:

Getting Ready for the Holidays!!

Fall is here! You know why? Because Starbucks is selling the Pumpkin Spice Latte!! Ha! Here in Arkansas, the weather is absolutely perfect! After 29 days of 100+ temps, I was actually getting mad at mother nature.
So, of course, this weather has me getting holiday prepared. I hate to put you in a panic, but Christmas is 15 weeks away! Holy cow! I also must the the McGinley Kid's Christmas Foundation ready, because the older my kiddos get, the more expensive their toys and gadgets.
Last year I started a Facebook page, Diva's Fudge-Me-Nots and Divalicious Candies...kinda silly name, but I love it. I love to cook, so I thought why not see if I could sell my yummies for extra Christmas monies? It took off and it completely paid for our kids' Christmas. This year, I hope it happens again! I've added more items that I can't wait to sell, they are going to be so good!
Pumpkin Fudge
Fall Dip
Chocolate Chip Angel Food Cake
Apple Enchiladas...and more!

Take a look and you too may help the 'Foundation'!

New Flower Decorations

This weekend I made some new flower decorations. I just bought different flower sizes and made my own designs. Clips or magnets can be added for headbands, refrigerators, cubicles or lockers. They are so cute!!

Gameday Dress

After many requests for gameday dresses and many hours of finding the best ways of doing it and many, many trips to Hobby Lobby, I finally made one for one of my friends little girl:
This is a 4t shirt and I just added cotton material to the bottom after I ruffled the print.
If you would like for me to make you one, just let me know or go to my facebook or etsy page.

Little Girls' Purses

A couple of months ago while browsing some blogs, I came across this tutorial of how to do canvas totes with ruffles. I decided to give it a try and they all have turned out so cute!! There are three options that you can use to do this. However, out of all the options, I highly recommend getting a ruffler foot if you are going to do ruffles on more than several occasions. They run around $12-$15 and you can get them at your local craft store like Hobby Lobby, JoAnn’s, Hancocks, etc. You can also get different sizes of these tote bags anywhere and they aren't that expensive. These make great gifts!
Option 1:    Use a glue gun instead of stitching. Just line up your fabric (I used a white pencil to make sure I kept a straight line) and ‘push’ the fabric making ruffles
Option 2:    Make stitches using the widest stitch on your sewing machine and pull the bottom thread. I did this a few times and when I felt like I could go bang my head against a tree, I went and bought a ruffler foot!! You might want to take a Valium beforehand..unless you have magic hands, it’s a little frustrating!
Option 3:    My favorite option! Use a ruffler foot!! I used the setting 6.
So, first, iron your fabric and fold over the edges, iron them and sew. Ironing makes it so much easier and prettier. My OCD will have a fit if you don’t iron your stuff..thanks.
Make markings on your totes to make sure your fabric is aligned straight and pin. Then sew. I make sure the bottom of the ruffle goes over the one on bottom.
Then I added pretty ribbon, a flower that you can get a Walmart and of course….Bling. Because EVERYTHING should have bling!
If you would like one made, to my etsy page.
Happy Sewing!
